Accessibility

at the Universalmuseum Joanneum

We have made it our aim to be a ‘museum for all’ and we want to make the Universalmuseum Joanneum accessible to everyone, where conditions permit (e.g. taking account of our protected monument status). Everyone should be able to visit our locations and the various exhibitions and parks.

Accessibility

Despite the differing construction features and specifications of our protected monument status, we strive to exceed the legally required Austrian regulations. Building accessibility enables all visitors to enter our museums independently and have a hassle-free and enjoyable experience. This process is facilitated by wheelchair accessible entrances which enable independent opening (push button/door opener), automatic and motorised doorways and touch-based guidance systems and pictograms. Detailed information on our website also simplifies planning of museum visits.

Usability

It is important to us that as many visitors as possible can ‘use’ our museums and enjoy a pleasant visit. Use of clear pictograms and high-contrast writing makes it easier for visitors to find their way around the buildings and exhibitions. In the lifts braille lettering, larger keypads positioned at a lower level and audible floor announcements are provided.

Wheelchair rental

Wheel chairs are available free-of-charge to visitors at the counter of the following museums.

Kunsthaus Graz

Schloss Eggenberg

Joanneumsviertel

Styrian Armoury
