Fire hats and other hat stories

This day trip invites your guests to immerse themselves in Austria's living traditions – among flax fields, historic farmhouses, steaming pots and masterfully crafted hats.

The day begins at the Austrian Open-Air Museum in Stübing, where a guided tour through the colourful museum valley shows how fabrics were obtained, clothes were made and hats were worn in the past – from everyday peasant life to festive traditional costumes. An entertaining and mysterious ‘hat-losing game’ adds extra excitement to the group and turns hat history into a hands-on experience.

Afterwards, your guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious, regionally inspired lunch from our traditional restaurant. Each dish tells its own story and brings the taste of the region to the plate. On request, we are also happy to put together an individual menu – tailored to your taste and guaranteed not to break the bank.

Of course, the time can also be used at your leisure.

Before heading to the last remaining hat factory in central Styria, your group can look forward to a sweet culinary surprise – finely tuned, charmingly served and melt-in-the-mouth delicious – perfect for the short drive to the next item on the programme.

In Deutschfeistritz, the Josef Kepka & Söhne hat factory opens its doors to your guests, inviting them into the exciting world of hat-making. Here, you can see how traditional materials such as loden, linen and felt are used to create truly unique pieces. On an exclusive guided tour, your guests will experience the interplay of ancient knowledge and modern craftsmanship – with the opportunity to try on hats or simply marvel at them.
