The life of the peasant population of yesteryear was determined and structured by everyday life. Hard work, the rhythm of the seasons, dependence on neighbourly help with various tasks and religious influences gave rise to customs and traditions. They were embedded in the course of the year or the course of life.
The industrial revolution led to social change. Living conditions and the importance of collective habits and regional customs changed. Consequently, customs cannot be something that is rigid or only bound up in tradition, but are subject to constant change.
