About SHOWING STYRIA

Probably the greatest challenge of our time is the change of our planet caused by human intervention. Its negative effects on the climate, the diversity of species and habitats and thus on our basis of existence are omnipresent today. Accordingly, SHOWING STYRIA deals with biodiversity and climate change with the title "Diversity of Life".

The mobile pavilion is dedicated to climate change with artistic perspectives, among others on the earth's atmosphere.

The approximately 400-year-old, landmarked barn, which previously housed parts of the Gironcoli Museum, is home to the House of Biodiversity. In conjunction with natural sites along the Path of diversity in the Herberstein Animal World, visitors are offered an exciting interactive exhibition on biodiversity.

House of Biodiversity

The new House of Biodiversity at Herberstein Animal World invites visitors to marvel at and discover the wonders and numerous achievements of nature as well as its diversity. How does biodiversity come into being? Why is it so important for our existence and what can each individual contribute to the protection of existing ecosystems?

This is communicated in the House of Biodiversity and in the natural sites along the path of diversity in a playful, interactive, exciting and sometimes surprising way.

The House of Biodiversity will also be in operation far beyond the exhibition SHOWING STYRIA.

The House of Biodiversity was reopened as part of STEIERMARK SCHAU 2023 and can still be experienced by visitors.

After the end of Showing Styria 2023, you find information about your visit on the Herberstein Animal World website.

Path of diversity

Herberstein Animal World is part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum and the ideal location for the exhibition on the "Diversity of Life". As a center of attraction for all those interested in nature and biology, the zoo is an excellent starting point for a show on the subject of biodiversity. In addition, the adjacent and unique European nature reserve Feistritzklamm/Herberstein offers the opportunity to integrate outdoor nature experiences into SHOWING STYRIA.

On the grounds of Tierwelt Herberstein, the House of Biodiversity is being built in the 350-year-old listed barn that previously housed parts of the Gironcoli Museum.

Nature sites complement the exhibition in the House of Biodiversity. They direct the focus to selected aspects within the comprehensive exhibition theme. At the same time, they invite visitors to Tierwelt Herberstein to visit the House of Biodiversity.

Mobile pavillon

The mobile pavilion plays a central role in the second edition of the SHOWING STYRIA once again. While in 2021 it presented a panorama of diversity, using art and research to open up a new view of Styrian cultural landscapes, in 2023 it spans the arc from the regional to the outer space; it raises awareness of what surrounds us and what we take for granted: Atmospheres.

Mankind is at a point where many things have to change. Looking up at the sky has always been linked to the question of where humans are located in the world - where we come from, who we are, and where we are going. With art, climate and space research, the exhibition in the pavilion opens up new and unexpected perspectives.

Who are we in relation to nature, to the diversity of life? If we do not achieve the climate targets, there is a threat of increasing loss of life-friendly spaces on earth and at the same time landscapes will continue to be overused, polluted or destroyed - this is also shown by the new Styrian Climate Atlas 2023.
