Rosegger-Birthplace

In 1927, the province of Styria bought the Kluppeneggerhof to make it accessible to the public as a memorial to Peter Rosegger. The repair and reconstruction work took decades. In the 1970s the Brechelhütte was rebuilt, and in 1989 the small parlour and the cellar in the rear part of the building of the house where Rosegger was born. On the occasion of the Rosegger anniversary year in 1993, the stable building was reconstructed from two old stables in the area.

Since mid-2013, the Rosegger Birthplace on the Alpl is part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum.

Rosegger-Museum

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Peter Rosegger in 1943, the province of Styria acquired the poet's summer house in Krieglach. In 1948, the two rooms on the upper floor, which had been locked by Anna Rosegger in 1918, were opened to the public. Gradually, other rooms in the house became available and were put to museum use.

Since 2013, the Rosegger Museum in Krieglach has been part of the Universalmuseum Joanneum.

The Rosegger Museum in Krieglach was awarded the "Austrian Museum Quality Seal" by ICOM Austria and the Museumsbund Österreich.

Museums For Future

At the Rosegger Birthplace on the Alpl and at the Rosegger Museum in Krieglach, climate protection and the careful use of resources have long been on the agenda.

At the Rosegger Birthplace on Alpl, heat for the caretaker's house has been generated with a pellet heating system since 2012. The museum in Krieglach has been supplied by the biomass district heating plant "Nahwärme" Krieglach since 2020.

Sustainability is also a priority in the design of exhibitions. Showcases and other elements are used several times, and some of them from the year 2000 - in a new colour scheme - can still be found in the current exhibitions.

The lighting in all exhibition rooms was changed to LED lighting fixtures.
