The protection and health of our visitors* and employees* is our top priority. Therefore, we ensure strict compliance with all prescribed and recommended hygiene and safety standards. We also ask you to take our rules and measures into account when visiting the museum - only together can we create a safe visiting atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you!

Please note that only a limited number of visitors* (one person per 10 m²) are allowed in our museums. For this reason, it may be necessary for us to restrict access to our exhibition areas above a certain visitor frequency.

For your visit to the CoSA - Center of Science Activities please always book a timeslot until further notice:


General Rules Expand Box
  • During a visit to the museum, it is compulsory for people from the age of 6 and up to the age of 14 to wear a mouth-nose protection and for people starting with the age of 14 to wear an FFP2 mask.
  • Keep your distance! Please, maintain at least 1 metre distance from all people not living in your household
  • For guided groups, proof of a low epidemiological risk for the duration of the stay - vaccinated, tested or recovered ("3-G rule") - is required and registration is obligatory.
  • As museums are equivalent to trade, a registration requirement from 15 minutes of stay and an entry requirement for our individual visitors is not necessary.
  • Outdoors, the mask requirement does not apply to regular museum visits or events.

Please note: Balance bikes are allowed in the museum grounds, bicycles, skateboards and the like are forbidden!

Restaurant "Zum Goeller"


Since May 19, you can again consume on site in our restaurant "Zum Göller"! The following rules apply for visiting the inn:

  • Registration obligation and 3-G rule (proof of test, vaccination or recovery) - please download the evidence to your smartphone in the visitor center at the latest, as there is no internet connection at the inn
  • Mask requirement when entering and moving inside the inn

Warm Meals, 11 am – 3 pm


In this traditional historical inn, visitors are offered typical dishes from different provinces of Austria in a cozy atmosphere.

Traditional dishes from the different regions are served according to the season and the availability of seasonal products. The unique atmosphere and the special menu offer the ideal opportunity to relax and enjoy. Menus forgroups are available on request.

In our coffee house "Kuchenstube" in the entrance area you can easily order a wide variety of cake specialities and drinks for a take-away and enjoy them during your visit to the museum valley!

Pick-up Times: daily, 9 am - 4 pm, when the museum is open

Picnic at the Austrian Open Air Museum Stübing

Enjoy a picnic in the middle of a wonderful natural landscape, in the shadow of historical farmsteads with a peasant’s snack just like in the old days. The picnic basket is the ideal supplement for a family trip or for a romantic outing for two at the Austrian Open Air Museum Stübing.

Reserve your Peasant´s snack in advance either by telephone or at the cash desk at the Museum entrance. While your picnic basket is filled you can discover the Valley of History.

At the inn “Zum Goeller” in the museum valley your picnic basket is all ready and waiting for you.

Find your favourite place, lean back and enjoy the silence and the nature – as well as your delicious peasant’s snack in the Valley of History.

In the shops (Shop at the entrance, grocery in the museum) we offer a great variety of products:

  • different locally produces crafts
  • products for your home and garden from the past 
  • traditional clothing like traditional hats
  • different kinds of regional food as a present
  • books about rural culture, traditions, handicraftS and the natural environment
  • traditional games for children
  • products for different reasons and seasons

All revenue from the shop goes towards the maintenance of the museum.
In the grocery we offer selected sweets in a historic atmosphere with "Seidenzuckerl, Krachmanderl"!

Assistance dogs Expand Box

Assistance dogs are welcome in all of the buildings, park areas and exhibitions of the Universalmuseum Joanneum.

The Folk Life Museum has not been evaluated by CEDOS.

For wheelchair users there is the possibility to be transported by taxi from the train station Stübing or Gratwein at own expense.

Due to its size and terrain, the grounds of the Austrian Open-Air Museum Stübing assistance is required for wheelchair users, people with reduced mobility and blind people, as well as visually impaired visitors.

We also point out that the historic buildings themselves are only accessible via gravel roads and access to the buildings with the wheelchair is not barrier-free. Driving on the museum grounds with private cars is not permitted.

The administration building with museum shop and museum café as well as the toilet facilities are barrier-free. The guest house is also wheelchair accessible and has its own disabled toilet.
