About the call

In addition to the City of Graz Environmental Award, the Kunsthaus Graz is organising an open call for entries: an artistic position on the topic of the environment/sustainable nutrition is being sought.

The juried position will receive a project fee of € 3,000 and an exhibition in the foyer of the Kunsthaus in October 2025.

Submissions are made on the basis of the artistic portfolio and/or a project outline as a PDF.

In cooperation with the City of Graz and Markt der Zukunft

Jury: Andreja Hribernik (Kunsthaus Graz), Katrin Bucher Trantow (Kunsthaus Graz), Judith Schwentner (Deputy Mayor of the City of Graz).

Submissions are possible from now until 7 June 2025.

For a culture of respect - towards the environment and ourselves.

Doing justice to the environment means treating ourselves with respect. The Environmental Award is growing: Kunsthaus Graz invites you to apply with an artistic project for a presentation and funding!

As a Green Museum, the Kunsthaus Graz has been promoting sustainable action since its certification with the Austrian Ecolabel in autumn 2021 - both in its own operations and in its exhibition practice.

In 2025, the Kunsthaus is delighted to not only expand the Environmental Award as part of the Market of the Future, but also to launch an artistic competition. The prize is intended to support a local position and an artistic work that deals with ecological sustainability. We are convinced that art has the power to raise awareness and bring about concrete changes in environmental issues.

Call for Artists

The additional prize awarded by the Kunsthaus is aimed at artists who deal with the topics of sustainability and environmental protection. As with the general prizes, the focus this year is on food. It has long been known that what ends up on our plates has a direct impact on our environment. It is therefore important to focus on those who know how to do it. Those who are pioneers and show us how we can achieve a more sustainable approach to food. The Environmental Art Award is interested in creative alternatives and forward-looking initiatives and now also in speculative works that focus on the importance of a responsible approach to food. Local projects that develop sensible and sustainable solutions against overconsumption and the resource-intensive production of food are particularly welcome.

The Kunsthaus Graz would like to honour an artistic position that deals with the topic in a sustainable and artistically convincing way.

The project fee is 3,000 euros for the production and also includes an exhibition in the foyer of the Kunsthaus Graz. The selected project will be shown on the ground floor of the Kunsthaus from the beginning of October to the beginning of November. The position will be honoured as part of the City of Graz Environmental Award. It will become part of the exhibition programme at the Kunsthaus and will be freely accessible to the public during the opening hours of the building.

We look forward to receiving your submissions: Please send us your portfolio and/or a max. 2-page PDF with a work or project concept by 07 June 2025 at the latest to office@kunsthausgraz.at with the note: Umweltkunstpreis Kunsthaus Graz.

The announcement of the selection and commissioning of the winning project will take place at the beginning of July.
