The thrust weapon, whose name derives form partigiano (fellow party member), was first used in Italy in the 15th century. Its original design has a double-edged, tapered blade (tongue of an ox). From the second quarter of the 16th century, pronounce, symmetrical wings (lugs) wered added thuas making it a parade and guardsmen's weapon. Agianst 1600, partisans were also used as officer's weapons. A smaller model, the so-called sponton partisan, was still used in the 18th century.

On the socket of this partisan is the coat of arms of Hans Franz von Stainach with the year 1628. He was the captain of the district and a landowner in the valley of the river Enns.
