The 19th and early 20th century collection at the Neue Galerie in Graz is one of the most important of its kind in Austria both in terms of quality and quantity. From May 2001 onwards we have the great opportunity to exhibit this special collection in the palace of Schloss Eggenberg.

The School of Barbizon and its effect on Austrian landscape painting

In this exhibition, complementary to the painters of Barbizon, we show a wide range of approximately 200 selected Austrian landscape pictures from the collection of the Neue Galerie, including Schindler, Jettel, Hörmann, Egner, Zoff and Damianos. The show also provides an opportunity to illustrate the effect of the French pleinairism on the domestic art scene of the 19th and 20th centuries with concrete examples.

The Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, born in 1967, has dedicated his installations to human perception and physical laws and to the conditions of nature.

The Neue Galerie is presenting the first exhibition of the artist and author Claude Cahun (1894-1954) whose oeuvre has been suppressed and forgotten in art history but which must be reassessed against the background of the ongoing "gender discussion".
