To mark the Designmonat, the Swiss Embassy says ‘Grüezi Graz’ and presents selected objects from the competition Design Preis Schweiz 2011. The BIX project titled Lichtkörper (Body of Light) from the Farb-Licht-Zentrum of the Zurich University of Arts has been created along with it, in collaboration with the Kunsthaus Graz. The focus is on the urban, object character of the medium, which reflects the theme of light in the city space in the sense of a designable corpus.
Kunsthaus is captured in a live performance by beams of light that are transmitted directly onto the media facade. The Kunsthaus reflects this perception of light and shadow with the modulated illumination of its own lights. The Lichtkörper (Light Body) project illustrates two properties of light: on the one hand, capturing those forms and modeling them in light and shadow, in brightness and darkness. On the other hand, light is shown in its quality as a performer and activator: the Kunsthaus becomes both a projection surface and a projector.
The installation encourages play and direct intervention in urban space. Everyone can take part in the interactive performance on May 10th at 6 p.m. and help shape the urban space with a simple flashlight!
The exhibition Design Prize Switzerland 2011 in the designforum Steiermark opens on May 10th at 6 p.m. and shows, among other things, the award-winning work Farbe und Licht (Color and Light) by the research team Florian Bachmann, Marcus Pericin, Ralf Michel and Ulrich Bachmann. The exhibition is a contribution to Designmonat and was created in cooperation with the Swiss Embassy under the title “Grüezi Graz”.
