Travelator

The Travelator rises from the bright foyer up into the dark interior of the ‘Blue Bubble’. On the slow journey into the unknown we can only guess what awaits us in Space02, the first exhibition room. Another Travelator leads from there into Space01.

Key facts about the Travelator

Travelator

The name ‘Travelator’ was made by combining the words ‘travel’ and ‘elevator’.

Length

The two moving belts are each around 30 metres long.

Pin

The architect Peter Cook included the Travelator in his initial design sketches. At the time, he called it a ‘Pin’ because it sticks into the ‘Blue Bubble’ like a pin.

The Travelator is an example of how architecture and functionality merge at Kunsthaus Graz, shaping the experience of contemporary art in new and innovative ways.
