Architectures of Life

Architectures of Life, which can be seen in Space03 of the Kunsthaus Graz in July and August 2023, is aimed at all visitors who would like to explore the possibilities of social inclusion through and with art. The opening will take place in the context of the Week of Inclusion on 04 July 2023.

The starting point for the works shown was the spectacular organic architecture of the Kunsthaus. Linked to this are the questions: how are spaces around us designed? How do they affect us humans and how do we act in them?

As part of the research project INARTdis, six groups with participants aged 6 to 40 years dealt with the topic of architectures.

Coordinated by the Pedagogical University of Styria, projects were developed in cooperation with the Universalmuseum Joanneum in the Kunsthaus Graz, the Neue Galerie Graz, the Museum of Natural History and the Archaeological Museum Schloss Eggenberg.

In a participatory process, various project partners (Praxisvolksschule Graz Hasnerplatz, VS St. Johann/Graz, ASO Fürstenfeld, MS Deutschfeistritz, Lebenshilfe Randkunst and students of the TTG course at the PHSt) worked on this inclusive cultural project on architectures of life.

On display are different approaches and three-dimensional realizations such as dream houses, wire sculptures, residential communities, an archaeological profile or a multi-sensory designed space. The show of works is complemented by two-dimensional works, for example woodcuts. The results of these project implementations and the process of their development are presented in this show of works at the Kunsthaus Graz.

What all the works have in common is that they are designed to be accessible to all people and to promote social inclusion in the cultural sphere through creative processes. In addition, interactive art works invite visitors to participate in the design of this exhibition.
