Forecourt

Eggenberg Palace is one of the most important palace complexes in Styria. It was built in 1625 by Pietro de Pomis for Prince Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg (1568 - 16349). The complex was intended as an expression of the prince's steep political career and at the same time as a symbolic representation of his humanistic world view. The construction and interior design are based on a comprehensive mathematical and allegorical program, which is influenced by the natural philosophical ideas of comic harmony (as taught by Johannes Kepler or Giordano Bruno).

The forecourt itself is accessible via a long straight access road through the park, starting from the entrance gate. One has a wonderful view of the main facade of the castle and of the surrounding beautiful park areas. The forecourt is suitable for outdoor events such as presentations, receptions, festivities and concerts.
