Between the Cinematic and Theatralic

Spread conceptually and stylistically from Oskar Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet and Antonin Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty through the Brechtian epic theater and Verfremdungseffect to Lars von Trier’s Dogville and Robert Lepage’s Geometry of Miracles, this exhibition traces the archaeology of a back stage and a location set in a thorough investigation of poetics and politics of artificiality and illusion.

Sol LeWitt

Sol LeWitt

Wall

Sol LeWitt is an icon of contemporary art. In the sixties, with his spatial structures he contributed to sculpture in a way that changed the understanding of artistic work, and thus became one of the founders of both Minimal and Concept Art. The reduction of forms and contents of his work, as well as the principal critique of its material character and the process of creation, are in the tradition of constructivism of the 20th century. With impressive consistency he developed abstract sculpture into minimalist concepts.

The Perception in Art

The subject of the opening exhibition is the phenomenon of perception, our knowledge about it and the conditions it is subject to. Everything begins with perception. Recent research suggests that cognitive processes and neural networks specifically determine and control our visual perceptions.

In search of Balkania

In Search of Balkania lifts a long overdue ban on the Balkans as a site of intellectual endeavor and cultural desire. COLLECTOR'S CHOICE

International Art since 1950 - Collection Ploil, a selection

Ever since Jonathan Richardson's praise for the science of the connoisseur in his 1719 paper, “An Essay on the Whole Art of Criticism as it Relates to Painting and an Argument in Behalf of the Science of the Connoisseur”, the genuine collector has been identified with the title of connoisseur. As such the private collector is of central importance in the development of art.

Fat Survival

In its first phase, the development of sculpture in the 20 century was characterised by detachment from the human body. In Brancusi's work, the human head becomes increasingly geometric and ultimately egg-shaped. This process was called abstraction, meaning abstraction from human dimensions.
