André Thomkins
Eternal Network
14.03.-09.06.2014 10:00-17:00
André Thomkins (*1930 in Lucerne, †1985 in Berlin) was one of the most innovative and versatile artists of the second half of the 20th century. In particular he came to notice in the 1960s with his creative artistic experiments.
André Thomkins. Eternal Network shows the great significance of the experimenter Thomkins and puts his technical and formal innovations on an equal standing with the hitherto better known drawings. This includes not only the group of works from visual arts, but equally the artistic works using the written word, and his musical attempts.
The comprehensive retrospective of André Thomkins was conceived and organised by the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, which has been administered and systematically appraised the artist’s extensive estate since 2002.
This is the first presentation in the BRUSEUM that has not taken as its theme aspects of the life and work of Günter Brus, but rather is devoted exclusively to one of his closely associated peers.
The exhibition thus sees itself as an important guide pointing to the future, in which mavericks in art history, multi-talented artists and protagonists from the 1960s and 1970s will increasingly be allotted space in the BRUSEUM.
