Martin Gostner

Opening: Sat, October 6th 2001, 1.30 pm
Curated by: Elisabeth Fiedler

Exhibition site: Neue Galerie Studio and Stiegenhaus

'dicke Aura Heimat' (Thick Aura Home) and 'Niederschlag von Volksreden' (Fallout of Speechifications) are the works on show in the studio and stairwell of the Neue Galerie.
Martin Gostner presents two systems of materialisation of ideas with the overall title of 'All I See I Cover'. He starts from the observation that man's visual ray has the capacity to change the surface of everything it sweeps over, and that nothing we see exists as such, but instead is only produced and at the same time interpreted by the viewer. Thus connotated terms assume a new specific exterior.
Gostner takes commonly familiar objects, coats them in breadcrumbs and deep-fries them, so re-creating them and giving them an aura. The second part of the exhibition demonstrates the interplay between transparency and the 'fallout of public speeches'. In his works, Gostner breaks open the superficial reality, and allows us a view of the hidden facts behind it.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.
