About BRUSEUM

The Neue Galerie has placed a focus on the work of this artist for some time; a major retrospective was held in 2004 in cooperation with the Vienna Albertina in our building. Both the œuvre from the collection as also the extensive material on the artist in the Neue Galerie archive and the large bibliographic inventory comprised of the exhibition catalogues and the literary work of Günter Brus, is to be brought together both on site and in a digital database.

A changing exhibition programme together with accompanying events such as symposia and film presentations are planned, with the intention of casting a serious research and critical light on the separate aspects of his œuvre and the mutual interaction of it with other forms of artistic expression. The aim of the "Bruseum” is to establish a permanent exhibition as a location of importance and with a high profile for the work of this artist in all its complexity and also to create a facility as a research institution that will be of a significance extending beyond the borders of Austria.
