UNI KUM! 2018

Students’ day

28.11.2018 14:00-19:00

Venue:  Kunsthaus Graz, Camera Austria, Schauspielhaus Graz

Fancy a break from everyday life at uni? A journey through Congo Stars? On 28th November from 2pm onwards, you are invited by the Kunsthaus Graz, the University of Graz Library and Camera Austria to their exclusive students’ day: for students, alumni association members  and employees at all Graz universities and colleges of higher education, admission is free of charge! In addition, we’ll be offering an exciting programme of events around the themes of Congolese art, critical research and the use of information, the concept and design of an art magazine and the architecture of the Kunsthaus!

Programme at a glance

2pm Congo Stars
with curator Günther Holler-Schuster

Suit-wearers in the Congo? A bar as a meeting point? Colonialism and art? Find out more about the Congo Stars exhibition, popular painting and stories about the Congo, its art and its people.

3pm Accessibility at Kunsthaus Graz
with Eva Ofner

Accessibility for people with disabilities at museums and exhibitions? Problem-free access, usability and communication for all! A guided tour of Kunsthaus Graz will allow you to discover and notice lots of new things.

3pm Printed matter
in collaboration with Camera Austria

What needs to be considered in the lead-up to creating a new art magazine? How should the design look in order to make you want to pick it up and read it? What editorial processes go into making the texts “fit to print”? Editors Margit Neuhold and Christina Töpfer use page splitters, galley proofs and print sheets to explain the process and offer an insight into everyday life in the editorial office of Camera Austria International.

4pm True Information
in collaboration with the University of Graz Library

Information is an integral part of our civilisation. And yet how can we evaluate information and use it sustainably? Taking the Congo Stars exhibition as our starting-point, we will be working together on finding a critical analysis that deals with information as a commodity. Gain an insight into the functions of a library: creating awareness of how information can become not just a worthless commodity but instead how its truthfulness can be evaluated effectively in itself.
Limited number of participants! Please register on: 0316/8017 9200 or kunsthausgraz@museum-joanneum.at

5pm Erasmus special
with Eva Ofner
New in Graz, or never been to the Kunsthaus? Get to know the Kunsthaus Graz. Come and hear exciting stories about the architecture and the Congo Stars exhibition. Also suitable for German level B2.

6:30pm From basement to roof
With Christof Elpons

What does the Kunsthaus look like underground? And what’s the story of the blue panels? A guided tour of Kunsthaus Graz that reveals the background behind its spectacular architecture.
