Ancient Music – transformed

Ö1 programme live from Kunsthaus Graz

04.10.2016 19:30

Venue: Space05

Live from Kunsthaus Graz: Presenter Bernhard Trebuch speaks to director of NOVA vocal ensemble Colin Mason about “The Logic of Angels” – distant vocal music from the 13th and 14th century; miniature premieres from the here and now in a cabinet of mirrors.

This fascinating journey into the past featuring six male voices is based on an idea by Majorcan philosopher and theologian Ramon Llull, who died 700 years ago. In his book “Ars magna”, Llull describes a logic machine said to be able to distinguish between truth and lie.

In the musikprotokoll presentation, Llull’s idea is transformed into an interactive sound installation, the Llullophone, to be seen, heard and operated at Kunsthaus Graz. This concert performance will bring the NOVA vocal ensemble, which specialises in old, ancient as well as new music, onto the stage of the Helmut List Hall.
