Finissage and performance in the context of the exhibition Catch Me! Grasping Speed

Les gens d’Uterpan are experimental dancers from Paris. They size up and take the measure of the exhibition rooms at the Kunsthaus Graz, taking the capabilities of bodies and space to the limit and blurring the boundaries between object and subject. With their appearances at the Lyon Biennale in 2007 and the Künstlerhaus in Stuttgart in 2009, Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet, who have been working at the frontiers of dance and art for some years, have placed themselves among the foremost exponents of contemporary performance art in France.

Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet (Les gens d’Uterpan), in partnership with the CAC Bretigny, have developed the construction and diffusion of several danced performances – The X-Event. The creations point out and question the frontiers between the two fields: performing arts and plastic arts. After the creation of X-Event 1, Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet developed seven protocols brought together under the generic title X-Event 2. Constructed as autonomous units and used as individual objects, these embodied forms can enter into a duality with other venues as part of a framework or an exhibition agenda, distinct from the ordered theatre space. Determined by an expenditure of energy taken to its limits, what the performers do confronts the specific characteristics of the site and its intended use. Developing new relations with creation, the two artists develop their research towards new exhibition frameworks, new conventions, towards a new identity.
