Participation, Intervention and "Patho-Politics"
When Art Gets Involved
29.09.2012 16:30
frieze d/e-Launch and Panel Discussion
The terrain between art and politics is not only in the figurative sense a "battleground". Artists continually enter into and find themselves in real conflict zones. This year, for example, an important part of the dOCUMENTA(13) has been an exhibition in crisis-torn Kabul.
On the occasion of the publication of a new issue of frieze d/e, the panel discussion with the participants and curators of the Cittadellarte exhibition will look at different ways that art – in the tension between participation and intervention – is able to get involved. What is this involvement to look like and what factors does it depend on? What responsibility do artists have with respect to different contexts and their specific problems, their injuries or traumas? And what role do the politics of emotion play between genuine concern, confident action and silent contemplation of the suffering of others?
