For the third time now, on 01.10.2016 Kunsthaus Graz will be joining the worldwide BIG DRAW event. Across the globe, drawing becomes a shared tool for expressing experiences, spontaneous thinking and ideas—or simply for experimenting to your heart’s content.

THE BIG DRAW emerged from an initiative by the British CAMPAIGN FOR DRAWING, culminating in a drawing festival staged for the first time in 2000. From the outset, its focus has been on the pure joy of drawing – it is most definitely NOT about being “good at drawing”! Victorian artist John Ruskin saw drawing not just as an artistic pursuit but also as a fundamental basis of seeing, as a vital tool for thinking, inventing and communicating.

In the meantime, the BIG DRAW has evolved from a regional initiative into an international festival that forms a vibrant connection between Europe and North America: in large-scale drawing actions, people of every age and with all kinds of interests come together simply to draw to their hearts’ content: in large and small format, experimentally and playfully, whatever occurs to them or with techniques demonstrated by the artists involved.
