Michael Kos

Glaube * Liebe * Hoffnung
from: Edition Trinity, 2012

Hand-forged boules from the La Boule Bleue workshop, Marseille
Production: 20 items
Price: 550 €

Austrian sculptor Michael Kos’s works focus on the objet trouvé.
Minor changes to the found item—be it a stone, a chain or even a boule—give it a new context, a semantic reformulation.

Kos found fame through his stitched stone works, which come to the physical aid of stone that has been moulded and battered by time. He works with an attitude of empathy towards all physical material. In doing so he groups together opposites or—as in Kaltes Feld (with Max Seibald, 2008) at the Wurzenpass, a mountain pass between the Austrian region of Carinthia and Slovenia—introduces a twist on the names and meanings of places.

For the edition of the Glaube * Liebe * Hoffnung boules, the public is invited to compete against one another armed with the three “divine virtues”, listening to their own inner echo of the collision of values that were once considered the most important in the Western world.

The edition is on sale at the Kunsthaus Shop for the duration of the exhibition Faith Love Hope at Kunsthaus Graz and KULTUM (12.4.–26.8.2018).
