On Transfer and Migration: The Case of the Maracujá
Publication on Daniela Brasil, Up/Rooting, Austrian Sculpture Park, Universalmuseum Joanneum, April 7, 2026–October 31, 2027
As part of her work as a guest artist at the Austrian Sculpture Park in 2026, Daniela Brasil installed an art–nature–life laboratory centred on the colonial journey of the Passiflora – the maracujá – from South America to Austria. In her artistic practice, Brasil explores processes of transfer and migration. She draws on her personal geographies (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to make visible colonial entanglements, experiences of uprooting, and possibilities of re-rooting.
In addition to illustrations, photographs, and explanations of the installation Up/Rooting, this book also includes a cultural-historical examination of the maracujá and its significance.
With contributions by Daniela Brasil and Gabriele Mackert (ÖSP).
