The project “Was geht?/What’s Up?” will be carried out in four Styrian towns between summer 2016 and spring 2017: Bärnbach, Gratkorn, Kapfenberg and Trofaiach. One artist will come to the open youth work facilities of each of these towns in order to develop an artwork on the spot together with local youths.
It is about exploring the public space and tracing changes in the respective town. But it will also be about sounding out where and how young people can bring themselves in and put things in motion. In the end of the project, an artwork is to be created in the open air in each of the four towns. The youths are the local experts in this project. They are street-smart in their hometown and know a lot about its squares, streets, meadows, and most interesting spots. These are the best prerequisites to participate in the different stages of “Was geht?/What’s Up?”.
Initially, the participants will jointly explore the towns and look for themes and places which might be important for the project. Then the artist will suggest possible artworks, which will be jointly conceived, developed further, and realised subsequently. The works created are supposed to make clear that young adults are not only interested in the transformations of their living environment but also have a say in them!
Already now, we say thank you to the open youth work facilities for their great interest in this cooperation. We wish all the young people who will participate in “Was geht?/What’s Up?” an exciting time and many good experiences with the artists
