The installation, featuring a salt stone basin, soap and running water, aims to re-establish hand washing as a communal ritual.
Especially since the outbreak of Covid-19, regular hand washing has been highlighted as an effective protective measure against potential infection. Very few people are aware that an ‘International Handwashing Day’ (15 October) had already been established before this. With an installation of salt stone basins and running water, the Vienna-based artist duo Willnauer/Gasparitsch aims to re-establish hand washing as a communal ritual. The aim is to give it greater significance again – beyond a mere hygiene measure.
As a public meeting place, World Wide Washing in the NonStopScheiner pavilion offers space for informal exchange and invites visitors to view hand washing as a conversation starter.
Installation on safety mat with salt stone basin, running water, soap, towel flags and stools.
