Kristina Leko

(No) Monuments for Labour and Immigration

The Zagreb-born artist Kristina Leko placed nine boards with texts on immigration and labor in the so-called Annenviertel neighborhood — a working-class district of Graz since time immemorial. In the textual art works, historical biographies of immigrated people refer to the (hi)story(-ies) of the location. The biographical research was conducted by students from the Institute for European Ethnology under the leadership of Judith Laister. The work sees itself as a collaborative production and was implemented by the Institute for Art in Public Space Styria in cooperation with <rotor> center for contemporary art.
