Salzburg Coins from the Collection of Bankhaus Spängler and the Universalmuseum Joanneum Coin Cabinet
29.04.-31.10.2021
In cooperation with Bankhaus Spängler
About the exhibition
With its more than 190 years of history, Bankhaus Spängler is Austria’s oldest banking institution. It owns one of the oldest and most extensive collections of Salzburg gold coins. In this, coinages can be found from all the state rulers, from Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach (1495–1519) to Elector Archbishop Ferdinand (1803–1805).
The exhibition The Archbishops’ Gold shows a selection of these splendid gold coins, adding to them by chosen Salzburg gold coinages from the Universalmuseum Joanneum Coin Cabinet, which came to the collection in the 19th century.
