The Second World War in Europe ended 80 years ago with the unconditional surrender of "Deutsches Reich". Styria was also badly affected by the war in 1945. Liberation from the Nazi regime also meant a new beginning and the first steps from dictatorship to democracy. The exhibition sheds light on the period from March 1945 - the fighting in Styria and the so-called ‘final phase crimes’ of the Nazi regime - to the first free elections in the resurrected Austria in November 1945.
