Together with Katrin Bucher Trantow, Chief Curator of Kunsthaus Graz, and Karl Peitler, Director of the Coin Cabinet, Ryts Monet will discuss money and flowers. Drawing on his intervention at the Coin Cabinet as well as his participation in the exhibition 30% Dandelion, the conversation will also explore forms of artistic and artisanal exchange and the cultural and social meanings attributed to them. The discussion opens up new perspectives on shifting notions of value, exchange, memory, and representation.
The iconography of money is among the most powerful visual systems through which societies present themselves to the world. Within it, image, collective memory, power, and symbolic value mutually reinforce one another. In this visual system, the flower may at first appear marginal; yet it carries political, cultural, and territorial meanings and plays an active role in shaping collective imaginaries and processes of identity formation.
We look forward to welcoming you.
