On Day of Liberation from National Socialism (May 8), the question arises: how and what do we remember today? In the guided tour "Remembrance Spaces" we embark on a search for contemporary forms of remembrance of the horrors of National Socialism in the public space of Graz. We encounter Peter Roskaric's small, almost inconspicuous figure of a firefighter near the synagogue, which prompts us to reflect on shared responsibility. A few steps further on, Catrin Bolt's scrolling text, inscribed with a poignant quote from former Chief Rabbi David Herzog, becomes embedded in the urban landscape. Jochen Gerz's project "I, Sigfried Uiberreither" at Graz Castle, once part of the "63 Years Later" project, confronts us once again with the era of National Socialism in Styria and reveals its political repercussions. The tour concludes with Wolfgang Skala's "Liberation Monument," whose title we examine in dialogue with Eduard Freudmann's temporary work "Monumyth." The tour invites participants to open up spaces for reflection and to collectively consider contemporary cultures of remembrance.
