About the
Event

Opening of the project „SOIL WALL GARDEN“ by Shō Alexander Murayama and Samuel Collins in the context of „OPEN FIELDS – Art and Agriculture“.

OPEN FIELDS

Reflections on the sensitive and diverse interaction between humans and nature have existed since prehistory in the form of art. The OPEN FIELDS project focuses on essential aspects at the local level, namely those of agriculture in direct contact with art. This meeting of two apparent opposites is to be given space and time in a respectful setting on equal terms and in critical examination.

SOIL WALL GARDEN

In their work at a winery in Tieschen, Shō Alexander Murayama and Samuel Collins engaged intensively with architecture and space. Their project SOIL WALL GARDEN, a temporary sculptural earth garden conically reaching four meters into the earth, served as a place of retreat and concentration, as well as a field of inquiry. Wandering layers of soil could be perceived here as well as the resistance to idyllic promises of salvation in favor of an open and constantly changing situation as a concept of life, marked by a seating accommodation from a transit point. Communication, concentration and reflection are clearly inscribed in this work.
