Eva Seiler’s project Se Kuala Se deals with language, practices, architecture and tools that shape the lives of cows and people in agriculture. In a cooperative discussion with the farmer Agnes Harrer and her father on their farm in Semriach, who, in addition to chickens and cats, mainly “farm” Scottish highland cattle in suckler cow husbandry on steep terrain, she discovered old, already disused equipment such as a spindle, automatic waterers, scratching brushes or back carriers, which she adapted, had elaborately restored with bronze bristles or embroidered with animal motifs. Translating them into new contexts, she reformulated these utensils into autonomous works of art. The artist galvanized individual metal parts found in the yard and expanded them into a mobile sculpture.
Alongside physical communication, vocal communication with or the naming of animals, which has existed for centuries, was likewise explored. Calling to mind yodeling sounds, intonation and embellishments in language and work tools become visible and audible.
