About the
Event

How is antifascist resistance remembered – and why does this memory remain contested? Through short presentations and discussions, the event will explore Carinthian partisans, the Antifascist Women’s Front, partisans in Styria, and different forms of remembering, suppressing, and politically contesting history.

15-minute presentations and discussions with

Reinhard Braun: ... treating facts as if they were merely matters of opinion. (The title quotes Hannah Arendt, 1949)

Starting from selected partisan memorials, a mosaic of oppression, denial, suppression, and remembrance will be assembled.
Peter Pirker: On the historical significance of the Carinthian partisans
Helena Verdel: On the significance of the Antifascist Women’s Front
Heimo Halbrainer: Carinthian partisans in Styria
Ljiljana Radonić: Negotiating forms of remembrance – competing victim narratives and conflicts over historical politics
