The transdisciplinary practice of the artist duo Astarti Athanasiadou & Stéphane Verlet Bottéro moves at the interface between socially committed art, ecological work, performance training and choreography and takes place mainly in rural and agricultural locations in Europe. The artists are building a temporary research laboratory and dance studio on Konrad Liebchen’s organic farm in Neumarkt in Styria, which is situated in the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park and where endangered domestic livestock species such as Murboden cattle, Noriker horses and Carniolan sheep are bred. Together with four other performers they created a dance performance based on the “Body Weather” performance practice. In terms of content, the movement experiments, in keeping with the project title Farm/Dance, Feeling/Doing, Focus/Derail (agriculture as embodiment), relate to the performers’ personal experiences on the farm, such as in-situ explorations and agricultural activities they pursue during their two-week stay.
