About the
Project

Perfomance 925 examines the framework conditions of artistic work and presents them on the basis of the intrinsic working processes of the concrete artistic personality.

The title 925 stands as a cipher for today's working world with its rigid concepts of time and conditions (working nine to five). Artistic creation is subject to similar rules as general work processes. Pressure, self-exploitation, efficiency, performance (in the sense of achievement), compatibility (with special life situations), earnings, etc. What distinguishes artistic work from, for example, office work or mining? Where does the artist stand in terms of appreciation, general acceptance or social utility? In short: how and to what extent does society benefit from artistic work? In 925, the similarities and differences between various working models will be explored and interpreted artistically. In a room with two shop windows, the artist will create a work over the course of a week and may have to work overtime to complete it. The driving force and indirect client will be the public. Rotky places herself in the hands of the audience, who must voluntarily provide her with the necessary materials, tools and food. There will be little direct communication – only requests; the artist will articulate her needs by means of signs. The performance examines contemporary work processes that oscillate between self-motivation and dependence.
