This tiny mineral was only discovered and described in 2011 by the curator of the mineral collection, together with two colleagues. In order to describe a new mineral, it is necessary to determine its chemical composition and periodic three-dimensional structure, i.e. the positions the atoms occupy in space. Since a naturally occurring material is often not suitable for this, it was re-grown in the laboratories of our study centre.
This link leads to a database of minerals, stones, meteorites and their localities, where you can find further information on Joanneumite and photos.
