Jörg Auzinger

The viewers of the interactive video installation are a central component of this work. They are initially confronted with a monitor showing a mighty tower in a large hall. This is reminiscent of observation towers or, due to its bareness and monumentality, rather of watchtowers as we know them from prisons or national borders.

Approaching the projection, viewers experience the tower in a ‘sublime situation’ in two respects: they find themselves on a high platform, as if on a stage, from which they celebrate the cheering audience like a star. Paradoxically, viewers simultaneously assume the role of observers of the applauding crowd. This installation raises questions about observation, control and surveillance, while also addressing the medium of video as a reflection of the post-digital age.
