The purpose of this lecture is to provide a comprehensive overview of the practice and concept of drawing as part of the work of the painter and historiographer Joachim von Sandrart. The author's oeuvre and his consideration of drawing as an educational step, a creative process, and a collector's item are closely intertwined in the construction of the Teutsche Academie (1675-1679). Given the success of these volumes in Central Europe, Sandrart and his publishing efforts take on added significance. This analysis will thus focus on Joachim von Sandrart as a draughtsman, collector of drawings and prints, historiographer, and publisher, and on the dissemination of the Teutsche Academie, with its engraved plates, between the late 17th century and the mid-18th century, with few addenda to his catalogue.
