Ladies and Gentlemen,

We invite you to the opening of the Alpine Adriatic region Pavilion of SHOWING STYRIA 2025 on 12 June 2025 at 3 PM at Metelkova Square in Ljubljana.

SHOWING STYRIA is a biennial exhibition initiated by the Provincial Government of Styria, combining socially relevant topics from art and science. The main exhibition, held at Eggenberg Palace in Graz – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is dedicated to the turbulent history of the princely Eggenberg family on the occasion of its 400th anniversary. It is accompanied by three pavilions featuring the exhibition History Repeating?, which, with a retrospective look at the Baroque era, raises the question of whether historical cycles of crisis are repeating themselves in the present.

One of these pavilions, the Alpine Adriatic region Pavilion, is traveling to Ljubljana, the capital of neighboring Slovenia. From June 12, it will be shown near the Metelkova cultural center at Metelkova Square.

The Alpine Adriatic region is connected by a partially shared history. The artistic contributions in the Alpine Adriatic region Pavilion do not explicitly deal with this topic, but indirectly take up aspects of it. They thus extend the regional context to a more general reception. In addition to art-immanent aspects, the focus here is on migration scenarios, cultural identities as well as questions of territorial and cultural claims and cultural roots.

The Alpine Adriatic region Pavilion features works by Lena Violetta Leitner, Andreas Heller, Michael Pöllinger, Milica Tomić, Franz Kapfer, Total Refusal, Thomas Spies, and Christof Neugebauer.

The opening will take place in the presence of Karlheinz Kornhäusl, Cultural Councillor of Styria; Mateja Kos Zabel, Director of the National Museum of Slovenia; Marko Mele and Josef Schrammel, Directors of the Universalmuseum Joanneum; Günther Holler-Schuster, curator of the pavilions of SHOWING STYRIA 2025; and artists of the Alpine Adriatic region Pavilion.

The opening will be held in Slovenian and English.

We look forward to your attendance and kindly ask you to register by 9 June 2025 at einladung@steiermarkschau.at
