We are delighted to invite you to the opening of STEIERMARK SCHAU 2025 at Schloss Eggenberg on 26 April 2025 at 11 am.

Under the title Ambition & Illusion, the UNESCO World Heritage Schloss Eggenberg is celebrating its 400th anniversary and will be the venue for the third STEIERMARK SCHAU:

The central exhibition Eggenberg Palace: Staging the World in the State Rooms invites visitors to take an unadulterated look at the history of the princely residence and its inhabitants. The palace and state rooms return to their original role: they become stages for the grand staging of a princely family who managed to turn their failure into an eternal success story with the help of a work of art.

The inspiring combination of precious works of art from international collections and princely rooms with new media and music makes for a fascinating visitor experience that will surprise even those who know Schloss Eggenberg.

Ambition & Illusion
Schloss Eggenberg: The Staging of a World

Curated by Barbara Kaiser, Paul Schuster, Stefan Albl

The main exhibition in the 24 state rooms takes you back to the time of the Eggenbergs - an era of change, characterised by crises and opportunities. It sheds light on the creation of Eggenberg Palace, deciphering the architecture and its mysterious numerical symbolism. The exhibition also introduces the people who lived here and tells of their lives and ambitions.

The Coin Cabinet and Archaeological Museum complete the main exhibition Eggenberg Palace: Staging the World with supplementary exhibitions that invite visitors to delve even deeper into the world of the Eggenberg family. A pavilion in the park spans the artistic arc between past and present and brings the ‘Sounds of Eggenberg’ to life.
