Woodcutters‘ shelter made of bark

Built: 2011 (reconstruction from the 18th century)

In former days, the woodcutters dwelled in bark shelters and only on weekends and on feast days did they return home.

This kind of hut, in some regions they were also called ”Lohhütte“, was a tent-like framework made of bars covered with pieces of bark. The bark provided protection from the weather. In the middle of this shelter there was a fire place equipped with a swivelling mount for the frying pan which facilitated cooking on the open fire. Behind the seats and alongside the sidewalls, there were wooden pallets which – when covered with spruce brushwood – served as their beds for the night.
