Museum tomorrow
Collection / Collecting
25.09.-26.09.2014
Conference
Registration required!
There is a whole range of questions that we, as those responsible for museums, must ask ourselves today in order to ensure the existence of the museum tomorrow. With this tomorrow in mind and as the first in a series, we will turn our attention in 2014 to the history of museum collections and collecting today. In lectures, talks and tours as well as together with representatives of the museums of Vienna, we will focus on some fundamental aspects of this topic, covering the museum’s entire spectrum of fields and tasks. What significance have the collections of individual museums had on their identity? What are the challenges of storing and conserving objects? How has the knowledge about collections been preserved? What new ideas are there for communicating old things and what possibilities are there for updating historical collections in terms of design? How can we handle collections on sensitive topics in an appropriate and up-to-date manner? What ideas and projects are there for deaccessioning and what does the future of collecting look like?
