Curating and Studying

Projects at the Intersection of Museums and Universities

Registration required!

What can university students learn from museums? And what can museums learn, in turn, from university students? While the university and museum spheres are often seen as separate fields, this workshop explores the mutual synergies of a specific form of collaboration: the integration of university courses into curatorial processes.

We want to examine the role courses can play in the conception process of exhibitions and the different models of cooperation available for this. The focus shall be on forms of collaboration that take as their starting point the process-based nature of knowledge generation and curatorial work. What formats are needed to be able to test different variations and make joint decisions on processes related to the preparation of materials, arrangements in space, and educational activities in museums? In the process, the workshop shall bring together the experiences of instructors and students as well as museum practitioners and explore potentials for the increased use of such forms of cooperation.
