The Museum Academy Joanneum offers researchers and artists, who are dealing with issues concerning museums and exhibitions, the opportunity of a research stay of several weeks at Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz (A).

The Universalmuseum Joanneum is the oldest and with its 14 locations the second-largest museum in Austria. It has a collection of more than 4.9 millions objects that offers an optimal basis for a museological and artistic examination of the museum in all its facets (history, collections, social role, architecture, exhibitions, mediation etc.).

We offer:

  • Lodging free of charge in an apartment at Eggenberg Palace for up to four weeks
  • Travel allowance of up to 200 €
  • Daily allowance of 25 €
  • Your own PC-workstation with telephone and internet access
  • Access to the extensive library of the Museum Academy

Application process:

We understand the In-residence program as a possibility to deepen the already started research. It is preferable that the research has a connection to the Joanneum Universal Museum, but it is not decisive for the selection procedure.

The selection procedure underlies mainly the choice of Wolfgang Muchitsch, director of the Joanneum Universal Museum, and Bettina Habsburg-Lothringen. If it is necessary other members of the Museum can be integrated in the selection procedure.

Application documents:

  • Filled application form
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Projects´ Synopsis (maximum 3 pages)
  • Letter of recommendation (optional)

Applications can be submitted at any time!
