The Fauth photographs
A photo studio in west Styria
28.04.-08.10.2017
About the exhibition
During his lifetime, Franz Fauth (1870–1947) was a widely-known character. Thus he frightened all the locals as the first motorcyclist in the Deutschlandsberg area, and enjoyed great popularity as a musician in the well-known ‘Fauth Trio’. From 1888 Franz Fauth was also active as a photographer, successfully running his own studio at his farm in Korbin.
In 2016, in the hayloft above the former darkroom, more than 12,000 glass plates, photographs, documents and photographic equipment were uncovered from a layer of hay, straw and brick debris some 50 centimetres high, and salvaged. The exhibition tells this remarkable story by means of selected photographs and documents.
