A collaborative exhibition between the Office of Memories and the Folk Life Museum

Exhibition Team: Maria Froihofer, Ulla Klopf, Eva Kreissl, Elke Murlasits, Jakob Pock, Barbara Sommerer, Eva Taxacher and Hans-Peter Weingand

The exhibition explores the topics of love, desire and gender roles, in a new take on the collection at the Folk Life Museum that looks at the (love) lives of gays, lesbians and bisexuals in Styria. It also looks at how gender roles are laid down, acquired, attributed and deconstructed, and investigates the history of the struggle for the recognition of love beyond its social function.

The exhibition juxtaposes folk-life realia with manifestations of another sexual culture, and decodes supposedly neutral snapshots as documents of the experience of resistance to a discriminative system. Numerous recordings by those affected and contemporary eyewitnesses shine a spotlight on the other side of love.
