The students of the masterclass for statuary at the Ortwein School of Art and Design, conducted by the renowned artist Markus Wilfling, developed the first redesign of the sculpture in 2015. Instead of using stretch foil, they decided to take a different approach. The various metal frames are being covered by one of the most primordial materials known through art history when it comes to sculpting: loam.
The industrial component of In Then Out, indication for conceptual and sculptural considerations, as well as the digitally generated and mathematical calculations, take a backseat in this new design. Through the manual and thus haptic reworking, the sculpture’s appearance resembles an archaic, prehistoric seeming architecture of a cult site.
