The Learning Museum - Learning in Museums
- 14.06.-15.06.2012
Conference
in cooperation with the Austrian Museum Association and the Upper Austrian Provincial Museums
Registration required!
When the question of the social role of the museum is raised, many people would say that education is the main or one of the key tasks of the museum. In spite of the public presence of the museum as a place of cultural education and a place of learning for schools, the question still arises of how education and learning are defined in the museum today and, particularly in terms of an adult audience, how this is reflected and practised as a task. To what extent is the educational mission part of the strategic orientation of individual museums? How is this educational mission put into practice and enabled in different European countries? What kinds of “places of learning” are used in museums (interpretative and hands-on stations, participatory spaces/rooms/exhibits, interpretative rooms etc.)? What is the best way to develop these and what combination of staff are required to do it? And which European museums offer us good examples?
