Kunsthaus Jour Fixe 24:
Rock is dead! / Lago Morto
- 30.06.2009
The exhibition Rock - Paper - Scissors at the Kunsthaus Graz is about how art construes the whole business of pop music, as a matter of controversy, quarry for material or something to escape. Virtually all artists alive today grew up with pop music and identify with it to a greater or lesser extent. How do they treat it, over and beyond the clichés of obsession and fan positions?
This will be debated by Diedrich Diederichsen, writer on pop and curator of the exhibition, radio producer Thomas Edlinger and the author and journalist Christof Huemer.
Moderator: Andrea Schurian (Der Standard).
entrance free
After the discussion, hardcore punk band Lago Morto will perform with artist Nico Vascellari live in Space04. For the exhibition Rock - Paper - Scissors, Vascellari turned the model of the cast band upside down. The performance of his Lago Morto band is about things that casting calls usually exclude - targeted aggression, unpredictable social effects and local politics. The basic condition when the band was founded in April 2009 was that all members should come from the small north Italian town of Vittorio Veneto and should tour the town together. From 10th - 24th May 2009, Lago Morto played at all possible venues - pizzeria, bar, laundry or video shop. Lago Morto can only export their social punk sculpture to Graz by bringing busloads of people from Vittorio Veneto with them. The film and sound material produced during the tour is also the starting point for the installation at the Kunsthaus Graz.
You are cordially invited to visit the exhibition Rock - Paper - Scissors. Pop Music as a Subject of Art prior to the event (6 - 7pm, entrance free).
